About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen is essential for the human body to function properly and is responsible for creating 90% of the body’s energy. It provides the basic building blocks that our bodies need to survive and is used in cellular respiration to break down sugar to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP)
Red blood cells carry the oxygen through the body and is the primary nutrition needed to grow, repair, and maintain all your body cells and tissues.
Environmental oxygen levels are linked to inflammation and is often accompanied by hypoxia. Inflamed tissue has been shown to have lower than normal oxygen levels.
The air you breath is about 21% oxygen and the remainder is mostly nitrogen.
HBOT (Hyperbaric oxygen therapy) is a type of oxygen therapy that provides up to 100% oxygen in a space with high air pressure. The air pressure in the chamber is 2 to 3 times higher than normal, which causes the blood plasma to become saturated with oxygen. The oxygenated blood plasma can travel into areas too inflamed to allow red blood cells to flow freely. This supplies the tissues with full oxygen saturation allowing for healing and encouraging angiogenesis, the creation of new blood vessels. It also stimulates the production of adult stem cells and certain substances, like vascular endothelial growth factor. These attract and stimulate endothelial cells needed for healing.
